The Martin House Dragon Boat Race Makes a Welcome Return!

The annual dragon boat race for Martin House made its return to Roundhay Park earlier this year, with the HARIBO Team as eager as ever to get involved.

In June, team HARIBO made a splash for Martin House as headline sponsor for its annual Dragon Boat Race at Roundhay Park in Leeds, helping to raise a total of £75,000 for the charity!

The race has become a summer tradition in the heart of Yorkshire where teams compete by rowing on the waters, with all proceeds going towards the charity and its important cause.

Following last year’s event, the team was inspired to put on their best performance and came with their paddles ready! The competition featured over 30 other teams with races taking place every ten minutes before the finalists were revealed.

Those brave enough to take to the waters representing Team HARIBO put on an impressive performance and made Goldbear proud!

Outside of the race itself, the day featured a range of different activities with our charity team setting up some classic carnival games to add to the fun for those involved. In true Dragon Boat Race tradition, Team HARIBO also joined together in a tug-of-war competition in the ultimate test of combining strength, strategy and teamwork!

Michelle McVeigh, Head of Manufacturing at HARIBO UK, said: “I had an amazing time competing in the Dragon Boat Race this year and our team put in such a great performance representing HARIBO – both in the boat race, tug-of-war and wider involvement in the event! The team was very excited to get in the boat and start rowing on the water, it did take some time to find our rhythm and after that we were well and truly sailing!”

Rosie Mellor-Silvester, Head of Mass Relationships at Martin House, said: “Thank you to HARIBO for getting involved in the Dragon Boat Race once again this year in what was a brilliant fundraiser for Martin House, with £75,000 raised overall. HARIBO knows how to add a dose of childlike happiness both through their enthusiasm and range of activities!”

We have been proud to support Martin House Children’s Hospice for over 15 years. As a proud Yorkshire business, we share a purpose of creating childlike happiness and memorable moments. These fundraisers ensure that the local charity can continue to provide vital care to children and young people with life-limiting illnesses across Yorkshire.
